Core safeguards

  • Collect and publish the minimum identifying information needed, with heightened care for minors and sensitive circumstances.
  • Obtain appropriate contributor, parent, guardian, school, and media consent where required.
  • Do not publish private contact details, precise live locations, confidential school records, or material that creates a foreseeable risk of harm.
  • Use supervised, purpose-limited communication for interviews and editorial work involving minors.
  • Escalate credible concerns to an appropriate trusted adult or designated school safeguarding professional rather than investigating them as journalism.
