Who is responsible

The Insight is an independent, student-led educational and editorial project led by Christian Hansen. During this testing phase, it is not operated by, endorsed by, or a department of the Western Academy of Beijing (WAB).

The correspondence address listed in the Impressum is used because the project is currently being tested within the school community. It does not make WAB the operator or data controller for The Insight.

Information we may process

• Basic technical information needed to deliver and secure the site, such as request time, IP-derived security signals, browser information, and server logs.
• Anonymous or aggregated page-view information collected through Vercel Web Analytics, including pages visited, referrer, approximate location, device, operating system, and browser. Vercel Web Analytics is configured without advertising cookies.
• Information you deliberately submit, such as your name, school, role, email address, registration details, editorial submissions, messages, and uploaded files.
• For approved accounts, identity-provider details such as name, verified email address, profile image, provider identifiers, access roles, school membership, and security or editorial audit records.
• Preferences and demo progress stored locally in your browser where a feature uses local storage.

Why we use it

• To deliver the website, authenticate approved users, and protect accounts and systems.
• To review school registrations, submissions, research, media, and editorial work.
• To operate publication workflows, respond to messages, correct content, and maintain an audit trail.
• To understand general site usage and improve navigation, reliability, accessibility, and content.
• To meet legal, safeguarding, security, and record-keeping obligations.

Service providers and transfers

The site may use Vercel for hosting, analytics, and file storage; configured OAuth providers for sign-in; a database provider; and Resend or another configured email provider for transactional messages. These providers process information only as needed to supply their services and may process it outside mainland China.

Do not submit confidential school records or sensitive personal information during testing. A production launch involving students or users under 14 must complete a separate privacy and cross-border-data review and obtain any required guardian or separate consent.

Retention and your choices

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose described, security, dispute handling, or applicable legal obligations. Testing data may be deleted when a test ends or an account is no longer required.

You may ask to access, correct, copy, restrict, or delete personal information associated with you, or withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing. Some records may need to be retained for security, editorial integrity, or legal reasons.

Children and school users

The public site is intended for general educational use. Users under 14 must not create accounts, submit personal information, or upload material independently. A parent, guardian, or authorised school representative should contact us first.
